Assessment What Examiners Assess at Level 2
Vocabulary
A wider range of general and professional vocabulary is expected. Candidates should use precise, topic-specific words and avoid relying on basic Level 1 language.
Grammar
A full range of tenses and complex sentence structures is required. Conditional sentences, passive voice, and reported speech are all expected to appear naturally.
Fluency & Coherence
Candidates are expected to speak at a natural pace with well-organised, connected ideas. Discourse markers, linking phrases, and logical structure are key indicators.
Pronunciation
Pronunciation should be clear and intelligible to an unsympathetic listener. Stress, rhythm, and intonation should support communication rather than hinder it.
Level 2 Study Tip At Level 2, length and depth of answer matter as much as accuracy. Practise giving 5-7 sentence responses with a clear structure: point, reason, example. Record yourself and check whether your answers feel complete.
